Referrals

The real estate industry is based off word of mouth advertising and referrals. There really isn’t any way to succeed in this business without them. That is why Realtors ask for you to refer them to someone you know- friends, family, enemies. It means the world to us when you remember to keep us in mind if you ever hear anyone talking about buying, selling or renting properties.

This is essentially how referrals in our business work: Your cousin living in New Zealand is looking to buy a piece of land to build a house on. You remember me, your real estate agent and friend! So you tell your cousin that you know of a great agent and will put the two of them in contact.

You call me with the exciting news of your cousin looking to buy land in New Zealand and that she doesn’t have an agent working with her and ask if I can please help out. Of course! I take your cousin’s name, number, email address and any pertinent information to this sale and I send it off to a New Zealand real estate agent that knows the local area well and can help her. Then the agent I sent her information to will contact her and they get to work!

Generally, the agent is someone from within the Century 21 company since Century 21 is worldwide and I work for them. I can always refer to another company if there isn’t a Century 21 in your cousins area.

What do I get out of the referral process? I get a referral fee. Generally it is a percentage of the commission paid to the referred agent. I only get this if your cousin closes a deal with the agent I referred her to because the agent doesn’t get paid unless it closes. Referral fees aren’t guaranteed, just like commissions aren’t guaranteed. They are only paid if a deal goes through and closes.

That is why this business is difficult and why referrals are important to us. You don’t have to be in our area, state or even our country to recommend us to the people you know. All we need from you is for you to remember us when talking with others and to get their information to pass along if they are interested in using a real estate agent.
