What is the biggest complaint that people have about real estate agents they are working with? It’s lack of communication. I hear this all the time. That is why I try very hard and pride myself on being in regular communication with my customers, either via phone, text or email.
In today’s technological world, it is so easy to communicate with one another. We are always connected with high-speed internet access, wi-fi, air cards, smart phones and more. All it takes is a press of a button. Heck, you can even have two broken arms and be able to dial someone with voice activated dialing options on phones these days.
So why is it so hard for Realtors to stay in contact- not just with customers but with other Realtors? I am working on a deal for a lovely couple, representing them as buyers, who are in love with a house we have put an offer on. It is a short sale so the process takes awhile (usually 3-6 months) but I email AND call the listing Realtor on a regular basis. He never returns my calls or responds to my emails.
The worst part of it all is that he passes me off to someone else who is assisting with this deal and she passes me back off to him. In my opinion, the Realtor should be the one I’m in constant communication with. I shouldn’t have to talk to law firms or third-party individuals who are working for the other side.
Buying/selling a house is a BIG deal. It’s an important step in people’s lives and they deserve to be kept abreast of what is going on in their buying/selling process.
I hope that I am not the only Realtor who is frustrated with this lack of communication. I hope that as people, we keep in mind the feelings and frustrations of others and do what we can as professionals and people to make others feel informed and enlightened and not feel the frustrations that lack of communication can bring.
